December Bali Intensive 2026

With Mark Robberds

December 8-18, 2026 - The Path, Pererenan, Bali

This December, I’ll be teaching an intensive here in Bali, bringing together morning Ashtanga practice and an expanded programme of afternoon workshops.

We’ll have five workshops in the first week and four in the second, with the final day reserved for morning practice. This gives us more time to explore the foundations, work through specific challenges and train the patterns that support the practice.

The morning sessions give you time to work with your own practice. In the afternoons, we’ll break things down, explore progressions and look at what you may need to train to move forward.

Dates and daily schedule

  • Teaching days: December 8-12 and December 14-18
  • Day off: December 13
  • Morning practice: 8-10 am
  • Afternoon workshops: 3-5 pm
  • December 18: morning practice only

Morning Practice

We’ll begin each morning with 5-10 minutes of guided pranayama before moving into Ashtanga practice.

In the Mysore format, you work through the sequence at your own pace. I’ll offer individual guidance, adjustments, modifications and progressions according to your experience and what you’re working on. The aim is to help you understand your practice and make choices that support its development.

Saturday practice with led standing

On Saturday, December 12, we’ll begin the asana practice together with a led standing sequence, following the breath and vinyasa count. After the standing postures, you’ll continue in Mysore style at your own pace.

Afternoon workshops

The nine two-hour workshops connect directly with the morning practice. We’ll explore how the postures and transitions work, identify prerequisites and use different training methods to develop the mobility, strength and control they require.

 Workshop programme

The following topics are listed in the proposed teaching order.

Exact topic assignments may change as the programme develops.

Modifications and Ashtanga Foundations

We’ll look at how to adapt the practice to your current abilities and needs, and explore the foundations that support the sequence. The focus is on understanding what you’re practising and finding useful ways to approach it.

Adjustments and Assists

We’ll explore how an assist can help someone understand a movement or position, and how to adapt it to the person receiving it. This topic appears twice in the programme, giving us time to revisit and develop the work.

Backbend Blueprint

We’ll break backbending down into shoulder flexion, hip extension and spinal extension, and explore ways to train these qualities. We’ll work with progressions that develop range, strength and active control, then connect them back to the complete backbend.

Hips and Leg Behind the Head Blueprint

We’ll explore hip-opening progressions using passive, active and loaded approaches, including isometrics. We’ll also work with spinal flexion tolerance, an important part of preparing for leg-behind-head positions.

Jump Back and Jump Through Blueprint

We’ll break these transitions into manageable stages, looking at compression, support strength and control through the positions between sitting and chaturanga. You’ll work with progressions suited to your current level.

Forward Bend Blueprint

We’ll explore the qualities that contribute to forward bending, using loaded mobility, isometrics and active flexibility alongside passive stretching. The aim is to understand your limitations and find ways to train them.

Handstand Blueprint

We’ll work through progressions for overhead support, body position and balance. The focus is on finding the next useful step for your level and building a practice you can continue independently.

Gatekeepers

We’ll look at the positions and transitions that can become roadblocks in Ashtanga practice.
Rather than repeatedly attempting the same posture, we’ll identify the underlying requirements and explore ways to train them.

What you can take home

My aim is that you leave with a clearer understanding of your practice: what you’re working towards, what may be limiting you and how to train it. You’ll have time to explore these ideas in your own practice, ask questions and learn alongside other practitioners.
